Dear friends at TSP and the Centre for Faith, Justice and the Arts, There are no words to express our gratitude for your love, support, care, concern and action. I am still very emotional and today was pretty rough (Wilfredo is a rock of steadfast strength, and remains so even in the midst of this. He is working non-stop to make money to send.) So please forgive me for not being more present. I wanted to help with the bake sale and thank each of you in person but just couldnt. Please know though that we will never forget your kindnesses and your gifts to our friends and to the Filipino people. We have confirmed that ALL of our friends are alive. In rough shape with real difficulties present and with more to come, but alive. I want to share a story: This morning when I woke I went on line and saw a video of Malapascua with so very many of our friends and their children who we love dearly and other people from our little community, sitting, traumatized on piles of rubble that was their home. You have seen the footage, now place the face of your loved ones on those faces. And it broke me. And I wept. Later in service during our meditation I had those people and images playing in my minds eye but my ears could hear YOUR children crying out Bake Sale! Bake Sale! And I had a vision. I saw cup cakes and cookies and loonies and twoonies floating up in the air over the heads of the children of Toronto waiting for Santa and gliding through the ether to miraculously become rice and fishes only to float down through the rain clouds on the other side of the Earth into the out stretched arms and into the mouths and stomachs of my friends and their children who we love so much. And it healed me. And I wept. And I will suggest to you that that moment was as real and as miraculous as that famous moment when a few loaves and fishes were blessed and fed thousands. It was as divine as when mundane water was changed into the celebration of wine. It was as transformative for me as when what was dead and destroyed was resurrected became alive again with hope. Thank you for being the divine we seek so we can begin to create the kind of world community that lives church. In Gratitude, James and Willy
