Dear friends, dear subscribers, today I am proud to present the first two previews of what will become GARDENS, 28 musical tableaux inspired by the gardens described by the contemporary Italian philosopher DUCCIO DEMETRIO in his book DI CHE GIARDINO SEI? CONOSCERSI ATTRAVERSO UN SIMBOLO (WHATS YOUR GARDEN? SELF-KNOWLEDGE THROUGH A SYMBOL), at the moment, unfortunately, published only in Italian language. In this video, you can hear the final of THE UNDERWATER GARDEN. It was orchestrated for 6 rows of bass flutes in C, 6 rows of clarinets in B flat, 6 rows of celestas. The planned development will be orchestrated, definitively, for 12 rows of bass flutes in C, 12 rows of clarinets in B flat, 6 rows of harpsichords, 6 rows of celestas, 6 rows of glockenspiel, 6 rows of vibraphones, 6 rows of marimbas, 6 choruses and 1 solo countertenor. Thanks to their conception as Chinese boxes, these tableaux can be performed even in the only portion that you want. Just like GREAT WATERS / LES GRANDES EAUX and 4 CATHEDRALS, GARDENS is one of 3 musical monuments I want to accomplish in the next 10 years. Most of these 3 works has been already widely sketched in its main aspects, and in many cases even defined in detail. In order to conceive them, I spent about three years devising a new technique inspired by some of the visual suggestions that I loved in my life: the great classics of painting from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century, the art of marquetry and 3 games: the kaleidoscope, the teleidoscope and the spirograph. These works can be performed entirely with human voices and traditional instruments or with electronic instruments and synthesizers or by mixing ad libitum the traditional instruments with the electronic ones. These 3 series of musical works are first and foremost a tribute to HECTOR BERLIOZ, who, first of all, not only conjectured, in his still well-known and beloved Treaty of Orchestration, orchestras and choruses of enormous proportions and grandiloquence, but also insisted with the French authorities of his age, so that they invest the sums of money needed to achieve an ambitious and noble as his. I dont know if will happen today what didnt happen in his time, but I think very important to remember such a great man, musician, dreamer, genius and his great ideal of music. In my way, I want to remember him. Second, these works want to be a heartfelt tribute to the secluded, discreet and laborious life of KAIKHOSRU SHAPURJI SORABJI; in memory of his style, magnanimity, magnificence, grandiloquence and of the wonderful monument to fantasy that his huge work unquestionably is. MY CHEERS TO HIM AND TO ALL THE SILENT WORKERS LIKE HIM! Moreover, these 3 series of musical monuments want to be my personal, intimately heartfelt tribute to the grandeur of the human race and of the works with which the humankind marked the history. FINALLY, I DEDICATE THIS WORK TO ALL FEARLESS AND GENEROUS HEARTS AND TO ALL DIEHARD CULTIVATORS OF THEIR OWN DREAMS. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
