Dear friends in Toronto. In just a few days your City Councillor will be voting on a motion to establish a Poverty Reduction Strategy for the City of Toronto. The Strategy has the backing of community leaders across the city who see a clear way forward to overcome poverty among our neighbours. Please urge your councillor to support it too when the Strategy comes before City Council on April 1st. Poverty touches people in every city neighbourhood. If we are going to change that, everyone and every level of government must work together. For example, our City councillors control things like the TTC, affordable housing, jobs, recreation centres and pools. Imagine if every City program had to explain how it was helping to reduce poverty. Imagine if every government had to do the same. And then imagine they had to do it. That’s what we’re calling for. A change that big needs a plan. Please send a message right now to urge your City Councillor to support this bold step to engage poverty in Toronto.
