Dear friends, it is hard for me to fully process this, but after almost five years of work, and the contributions of over 150 people, our film Swerve is finally complete. For those of you who dont know, Swerve is a 3.5 hour, surreal, cyberpunk, Deleuzean, feminist, philosophical science fiction film in ten chapters. Its about nanotechnology, ecology, virtuality, and the relationship between data, the body, and the environment. It was made for peanuts, through the generosity of the Princess Grace Foundation, the UCSB Department of English, and a number of private donors. It was made through entirely volunteer labor and costs nothing to watch or download (you can even make your own Blu Ray set). Combining poetry, academic research, a collision of philosophies, and beautiful imagery by a number of cinematographers, this strange monster should not have been possible to make. Im incredibly proud of everything that so many talented folks put into this. To name just a few: James West, Beth Grant, Caroline Do, Janelle Marra, John Henry Diehl, Marcia Battise, James Bolt, Maria Elena Laas, Charlie Robinson, Hugo Armstrong, Emily Gargus, Alexandra Magearu, Michael Grafals, Andrew Grant-Christensen, Isaac Klotz, Curtis Sherman, Michelle Mercer, Lex Benes, Claire Rose, Nicola Bertram, Tony Baker, Michael Chieffo, Merlin Huff, John Zderko, Puja Mohindra, Juan Garcia, Ira Abrams, Jeffrey Siljenberg, Dustin Pearlman, Alison Reed, Rachel Levinson-Emley, Douglas Bradley, Janna R. Lopez Räven, Lynn Maxwell, Thoungvu Ho, Sho Tsubakiyama, Nick Santos, Jasmine Yarish, Kat Weeks, Kat Devlin, Can Aksoy, Kevin Soule, Sumiko Braun, Shannon Brennan, Summer Star, Lindsay Thomas, Scott Selisker, Alan Liu, and so many more... From the bottom of my heart, thank you all! This has been one of the most difficult and rewarding projects of my life. It has been an incredible privilege to work with you all, especially on something so radically different, uncertain, and new. Heres a seven minute thematic preview of the film: https://vimeo/102811938 A more traditional trailer and all ten chapters can be found at swerveinterface A shorter theatrical cut, for single viewings, is in the works, so stay tuned for future screenings! With great love and gratitude, Zach
