Dear friends on Facebook!!!! I know you have been waiting for - TopicsExpress

Dear friends on Facebook!!!! I know you have been waiting for these vacations desperately. This is probably the only time your boss also would think twice before denying your leave application. Ananth Pujar!!! Not directed at you. Really wanted to get it out of my way at the outset ;) So...you go home...buy new clothes...buy sweets...cook nice nice food...ta na na na na na...VERY GOOD. I have just one request to make. Can you stay away from firecrackers this diwali? Why??? ok wait for it...... ;) ;) 1) Its burning your money away...literally. Wiki states we spend 5000 crores on firecrackers in Diwali every year. Thatd be 50000000000 (for the mathematically challenged). 5K crore??? Really??? Just to give you some perspective... the 2014 Union budget for Health and Family welfare is less than that. Health research total budget is one fifth of this. School Education and Literacy budget is 6K crore. AIDs control budget is just 857 crore. CAN WE REALLY AFFORD TO SPEND ANY MONEY ON CRACKERS????? 2) Do you have children at your home? Really small ones. 0-3 age group? Do you know what does the sound of firecrackers (so many of them) do to their ears? 3) Have near and dear ones with heart conditions? Have a Tommy (sorry for the cliche) or a Fluffy (another)? Need I say more? 4) Are we on a Help China campaign? Coz really, most of this 5000 crore goes to China for their cracker exports to us. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, let me talk about some lucrative alternatives. 1) For my friends who love their drinks every once in a while. How about spending 4-5K in fine, solid (proverbially) liquer? Yes I maybe promoting one vice to supress the other. But one thing at a time. (Dont drink and drive though...infact skip drinking altogether) 2) How about buying the poorest family around their monthly grocery? Look in the half KM radius. Really should not be that difficult. 3) Buy me a gift. I mean whatever happened to real comraderie. Kya sirf virtual dost bane rahoge? :) :) 4) Use your imagination... You have it in abundance. Time to spend it.
