Dear friends pl give your valuable suggestions… The Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) wants to introduce PG Courses in collaboration with the G.B.Pant Hospital, in order to make super specialty treatment available to the Islanders at our G. B. Pant Hospital itself, which is now being carried out at Main land. The Managing Director Dr. Prem Nair in a meeting recently expressed his views, saying that opening of MBBS Medical college here is not the immediate need, as it would lack quality since it’s difficult to get good faculties for it. Instead, the Administration should try to enhance the quota of MBBS seats for the Islands’ students in main land, at par with the seats available with the Lakshdweep. This would enable the students to get good qualitative Education in main land , instead of taking MBBS degree in Andaman Medical College. But it doesn’t mean that we are against the opening of Medical College in Andaman. That of course a subsequent arrangement, after full fledged set up of PG Courses in Andaman. Moreover the College could be started any time when the people want in the future, but not now. This would not meet our requirement of producing good doctors for providing better health services here, Dr. Nair said. What is your view in this regard? Pl. let me know at earliest.
