Dear friends please join me in a silent moment of commemoration of Cedric and Ninchen, RIP – one year has passed since my dramatic loss... The problem with having slightly less huggable pets, you kinda sometimes do not realise if they are below par despite my nurturing nature.... For a few weeks last year, I noticed that Cedric hadn’t moved much, or perhaps more accurately not budged at all… For those who didn’t know darling Cedric, he was a giant Vietnamese Centipede. Given that he was extremely poisonous to touch, I didn’t really cuddle him all that often. When he seemed a bit motionless, I thought he might be in quiet contemplation about life’s many mysteries and perhaps shedding his exoskeleton. But eventually some weeks on, I had to concede that he shuffled of this mortal coil with all his hundred lil legs. Perhaps it was this sad loss but unfortunately Ninchen followed him across the river Styx into the afterlife pretty much soon after. Little Nina was a mahoosive Mexican Fireleg Tarantula. She was a bit of miserable mardy arachnid to be honest. I like to think she was just misunderstood lol You couldn’t caress her as she would fling hairs that would really sting. Her legs were really furry with the same colour as my hair though she didn’t quite match my easy going demeanour. Despite her grumpy personality, I had a weak spot for her. In true Ernestine Blofeld mode, I used to name locusts with particularly large heads after an adversary and smiled benignly as my Darling tarantula bid their heads off, crunched them and devoured the rest… Call it my Budget Pet Crocodiles for a fledgling despot :D To be honest, I always felt that those spider gals pretty much got romance sussed. They get their guys to do all the running around, have some snoosnoo and then once the boys served their purpose, eat them. Such a neat symmetry! *looks affectionately at the boy….* :)
