Dear friends who are exhausted by my Vote Fleck posts: hang in there. This is a historical campaign, and Im going down on the right side of history. I went to Harrisburg to talk politics with Mike about 3.5 years ago. He wasnt in his office, but I was impressed to see an old friend from a local, impressively academic college as his aide. When I left, some random went out of his way to great me. Little did I know it was Mike Fleck. He brought me back to his office and spent an hour discussing upcoming legislation. His voice was that of Heres whats best for my constituents, not Well, the party bosses are telling me to do this. Now, two terms later, he is facing a zealous push from certain fundamentalists who seem to be paired up with an extreme political ideology. He is facing a candidate who cant read the letter of the law for the campaign, whose moral caliber has also been called into question by people who know him, who has told another friend that there is nothing about the party bosses platform he would even begin to question, and who cant show up at forums for his constituents. The fundamentalists are either admitting that theyre voting against Mike because hes gay, or still saying, Im not voting against Mike because hes gay, Im voting against Mike because he didnt tell us he was gay. Same difference, buddy, youre still voting on someones personal life rather than on what they can do for you in Harrisburg. And youre cutting off your nose with a Koch-branded knife to spite your face.
