Dear neighbours, last night (9 October) at around 9pm, I was out - TopicsExpress

Dear neighbours, last night (9 October) at around 9pm, I was out at the opposite house backlane feeding the stray cats when I smelt gas for the whole row (I thought everybody were cooking up a storm in their kitchens) and came upon a hissing sound at the back of a house under renovation. I realised that it was a dangerous gas leak and immediately alerted the immediate neighbours. I quickly went home, sent an e-mail alert to my neighbours and called Gas Malaysia which dispatch its emergency response crew who eventually switch off the gas supply from the outside after failing to plug the leak inside the house back compound. It was shocking that the Gas Malaysia crew informed that the contractor worker must have cut the pipe and just used a small roll of paper to plug the hole! A few observations that I would like to share: 1) I realised that not everybody knows the Gas Malaysias emergency hotline so please record this number to your emergency list (which should already include TTDI Police and Bomba): 1-800-88-9119 2) Immediate neighbours actually smelt the gas much earlier (probably days) but they all thought that it came from their own gas tanks/pipes/kitchen. My advice is to check with your neighbours or just call Gas Malaysia to investigate. Alternatively, call Bomba especially if the gas leak is from the gas tank which is probably out of Gas Malaysias jurisdiction. 3) Its very obvious that house renovation contractors have absolutely no expertise in gas piping. Gas Malaysia shared that the contractor did not notify them of the pipe cut. So, whether youre the house owner or neighbour, you might want to check daily the smell at the backlane of the house under renovation to ensure that there is no accidental gas leak. Lastly, a big thank you to these two Gas Malaysia emergency response personnel (pictured) for their quick response in saving the house block from a potential disaster.
