Dear non-trail-and-ultrarunning-focused media, in this case Outside Magazine, please stop referring to ultrarunning events as insane or crazy. They arent and either are the people who do them (usually). ;) When you call Lisa Smith-Batchens effort insane, you trivialize the vibrant story of a human beings passion and effort to an intangible, non-understandable event. If youre going to write about our sport, find the real story of the event or the person. In this case, find out from where Lisas motivations are born, or learn about the inner strength she must have to do what she did. Everyone of us has a story, and its not that we or what we do is insane. Media, we can do better! Thanks for listening.
