Dear people complaining that riders are on their bikes in NYC: 1. Cyclist was not charged in Thursdays incident and appears not to have been breaking any laws. 2. Cars kill literally hundreds more pedestrians (and cyclists) in NYC than bikes do, yet enforcement of speeding and other laws is nearly non-existent for cars. In some police precincts more tickets have been written for drivers than cyclists despite the disproportionately higher danger, number and percentage of lawbreakers among drivers. (If you disagree, come drive 30 mph with me on a major city street and see if anyone is not passing us.) 3. There are irresponsible drivers and irresponsible riders, all of whom deserve our scorn. I ask if you were this upset and busy talking about it when two pedestrians (including - child) with the right of way were killed in separate incidents within blocks of one another this summer. I ask if you were this upset and busy talking about the cyclist who was seriously injured in a hit and run incident this summer and cant even get the police to question the driver who she (the victim) herself tracked down. Considering FACTS #1 and 2 above, If your moral outrage at cyclists is greater than at drivers, or you are suggesting banning bikes but not cars in the park or city streets perhaps you should reconsider.
