Dear shadow energy and climate change secretary Caroline Flint, MP, Theres a reason why youre the shadow secretary... youve clearly got no clue how markets work and are therefore not fit for government - or do you really believe you can force UK energy companies to freeze prices for 2 years when the wholesale market will continue to do what it does? i.e. react to the rules of supply and demand? If the UK had security of energy supply (and that involves private companies investing in such things as shale gas, fracking, nuclear power etc) then we would be less dependent upon the rising price of imported gas and, to an extent, electricity. But then your freeze on energy prices if you got into power would dissuade any investment into UK energy because, after all, youre screwing the market and therefore a fair profit cant be made. And please dont try and believe the energy companies wouldnt increase prices BEFORE the freeze came in - and then would increase them again AFTER it ended. Thats a very stupid Labour Party assumption. Dont get it - do you? You have 2 choices - neither of which you can afford as a politician, and one the country cant afford so will not elect you: 1. run and hide, the policies wont work and youll be found out 2. nationalise energy supply - and if you think we as a country will pay for ludicrous communist ideals such as this (itll cost the country multiple times the bank bailout) then you really are quite stupid. Personally Id suggest you do option 1.
