Dear student leader Did you pass? No really ....did you pass - TopicsExpress

Dear student leader Did you pass? No really ....did you pass leader? Exam results are out and I think this is a great time to discuss academic performance of leaders. We have too many student leaders who are flunking in the lecture room and want to lead students who are passing . This can not continue to be the way of doing business. Student politics should be focused primarily on creating an environment for academic excellence. The bottom line for a university is whether or not you are getting good grades, the bottom line for employees is whether or not you are getting good grades. University drop out rates are alarming, there is a severe crisis with over 50% of black students who start a degree never ever completing it . 30% of students graduate in record time. In the most demanding degrees at first year level the pass rate can be as low as 20%. There is a major pandemic of student underperformance and this is compromising the country considering that over 900 000 students are currently in higher institutions of learning. We cant continue to allow failing students to lead universities. They can not set the example required for the rest of the student community . If you are underperforming as a student leader you have to take time off to actually get your house in order. How will you lead students to the promised land of graduation if you do not have the map yourself. How can you take students somewhere you have never been . So I am asking all student leaders to make their marks public , so that students can access fitness for the job. Also I am asking student leaders to support a sixty percent average requirement for all Student leader candidates. I am asking student leaders who are failing two or more subjects to step down from their positions of leadership and work on their marks. Its time to remove party politics from campuses . Its time to require students to be lead by people who care about their own marks. Its time for us to set the bar. Respectfully The guy in a suit
