Dear students... Here are a few things I never say, but want - TopicsExpress

Dear students... Here are a few things I never say, but want you to know: When I take attendance, I am glad to see you have made it to class; because I know, at that moment, you are healthy, safe and accounted for. When I see you fully present - not just physically, but emotionally, mentally - concentrated, focused and ready to take on any challenge I put before you, my heart sings. Because I know you are open and receptive - you will grow for the next hour and a half that you are FULLY present. When I give you exercises, I have carefully thought about each and every movement in the exercise. I have considered what muscles will gain strength, what concepts will enrich your dancing - not just with ballet, but with any other form of dance (and sometimes life), I have taken into consideration how the exercises will address your weaknesses so that you will become stronger (either as a dancer or as an individual). Sometimes exercises are given, for reasons such as building your confidence, or helping you develop teamwork/social skills/connecting with peers/partnering.... I put a lot of thought into each step that you do. Why? Because I care and want you to grow. That correction Ive given you 25 times...? I say it again and again, in as many different ways as possible, because I know how good it feels to have a cupcake moment.. to feel a sense of accomplishment; because I want you to be able to dance a LONG time - as long as your heart desires! Which means your body must last you... which means you must dance safely.. so I remind you, time and time again - which muscles to use, proper mechanics like knees over toes. Because I know how it feels to be in the moment and have your body be able to do what your heart tells it to! THIS is DANCE! It is BE-YOU-ti-FULL! And, I want to see you experience it and enjoy it. I want to share my information with you - so you can reach your maximum potential & dance your heart out!!
