Dearest AAPTS, Did you know that Asians (from the Philippines, India, Korea, China, etc) are among the highest undocumented populations in the US? This means that, along with our brothers and sisters of other ethnic groups, they are unable to register for an authorized ID, making them highly vulnerable to daily assault under the assumption that they are carrying a large sum of cash. In response, LALDEF (The Latin American Legal Defense & Education Fund, Inc.) launched an initiative called the Mercer County Community ID Card, which serves as a form of identification for undocumented persons in Mercer County and can be used at banks, pharmacies, retail stores, etc. This Wednesday, March 26th to March 27th AAPTS is joining LAS, ABS, CAN, LALDEF and other Princeton University groups for an important community event to show solidarity with undocumented persons in Mercer County. The idea is that we join those in our community who are undocumented to register for this card so that they are supported rather than singled out. Please join us this Wed-Thurs (attachment with event details) to support and take a stand against social and economic misconceptions and targeted violence in this community.
