Dearest Community Leader, Indigenous women are at least three - TopicsExpress

Dearest Community Leader, Indigenous women are at least three times more likely to experience violence than non-Indigenous women in Canada. Native Women’s Association of Canada has identified at least 582 cases in Canada of missing and murdered women. Some reports in the hands of the RCMP have the number as high as 824. How many more are out there? How many grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties, and nieces do we need to lose before something is done to address this? A public national inquiry is desperately needed to address this deeply devastating issue and yet this is exactly what has been rejected by the Federal government as recently as March 7, 2014. In response to the rejection of a National Inquiry for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, we invite you to show your support by joining community members calling for an inquiry for Noon at the Gazebo at Montebello Park on Saturday March 15th, 2014. We invite you to attend this event, send a representative, or offer an endorsement in support. If you wish to address the crowd, please advise us and we will make arrangements to add you to the agenda. We need your support of our missing sisters whose voices have been silenced. We cannot speak for them but would like to ensure that this stops now for future generations. -People in Niagara advocating for an inquiry into Murdered or Missing Indigenous Women and Girls PS - Please forward this information to anybody who you believe will benefit from attending this event or learning about this important issue
