Dearest Family and Friends, First of all, I would like to thank - TopicsExpress

Dearest Family and Friends, First of all, I would like to thank you for all the love and support you have offered since my diagnosis. As you can imagine this is a tough journey but I am ready. I have been fortunate to have my father with me since Friday. Before his arrival I met with my surgeon to discuss the final pathology report, chest x-ray, blood work and MRI results. For the most part the news was good. Clean x-ray, blood work looked normal, and certain hormone markers were exactly where we want them. The MRI showed the tumor to be larger than previously thought 5 cm vs. 3 cm, although MRI can be wrong. In the pathology there was a certain marker that is an indicator of prognosis, it showed a poor prognosis without chemo. After discussing this with the surgeon, he recommends a double mastectomy with chemo based on what they can see so far and my age. He also reassured us that they will not know anything for sure until after surgery when they are able to look at my lymph and the tumor itself. Yesterday Dad and I visited with my general physician and further discussed the various results. She agreed that the double mastectomy is a good idea not only as current treatment but to help reduce the likelihood of future breast cancer. She also agreed that chemo will most likely be part of the treatment although we can not be sure until after surgery. At this point I am simply waiting to have one final appointment with the radiologist before scheduling surgery. Best Wishes and Love
