Death : 28 March 1884 - The Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, Earl of Clarence, and Baron Arklow. He was the eighth child and fourth son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Prince Leopold, was tainted with Haemophilia, which led to his death at age of 30. Haemophilia has figured prominently in the History of European royalty, as two of Queen Victorias five daughters (Princess Alice, Grand Duchess of Hesse and Princess Beatrice, Princess Henry of Battenberg), passed the mutation to various royal houses across the continent, including that of Spain, Germany and Russia. For this reason, Haemophilia was once popularly called The Royal Disease. Prince Leopold was buried in the Albert Memorial Chapel at Windsor. His posthumous son, Prince Charles Edward, succeeded him as 2nd Duke of Albany upon his birth four months later and through Charles Edward, Leopold is the great-grandfather of Carl XVI Gustaf, the current King of Sweden.
