Death On Monday afternoon May 5 th the terrible news began to circle the area of the tragic, untimely and sudden death of 21 year old Evan Carey, Crooke at his home. Up to his demise Evan had been working hard in the family business and had been out socialising at the week end as normal. The youngest of four boys he was extremely popular within the community having a very special association with the young men and women of his age. He directed some of words of wisdom, advice and questions to ponder over to the congregation present and in particular to the young men and women.. He said all humans make mistakes and have problems going through life and suggested they share their problems with family members, professionals. friends and indeed with strangers if need be and above all to value the gift of life given by God and to cherish it specially in difficult times and that they could and should confide in their parents and be sure of their love, advice and support always. Many of Evans family members as well as his girl friend Grainne participated in the Ceremony as readers, bringing items to the altar that were so much part of Evans life and reading poems, the vocalist was and he was ably accompanied by David Hayes Evans father Kieran despite the magnitude of the cross for him and his family was joined at the altar by his wife and three sons as he gave from the heart a moving account of the life of Evan whom his mother called her Golden Boy. He said he was loved by himself, his wife and brothers and had been a very good son and caused them no trouble all his life. He spoke of his great interest in his work and his early morning starts and gave examples of his willingness to help out young and old alike and also included a few amusing happenings of which he said there were many and of his love of the social occasions especially in Woodstown where he spent most of his summers in the Caravan Park. Kieran thanked al who supported them over the last week After mass the cortege walked from the Church to Crooke Cemetery again led by the piper and in the Graveyard John Tully and his wife together with local boys and girls-friends of Evan- gave an Impromptu rendition of The Gambler .Evan is survived by his parents Kieran and Sharon Carey, brothers David.
