Death Trap at Imperial Royale Hotel???????? Ok, now I can talk about my near death and traumatizing experience yesterday. I went to Imperial Royale for 2 meetings yesterday. When my first meeting ended, I went for lunch and afterwards I went to the lifts to proceed for my 2nd meeting. I entered the lift with 2 guys and I pressed level 4(where I was going). Then the lift went up properly but it indicated level 8 and then it suddenly came down with a bang. By then we did not know where we were but the doors remained closed and all the sensors were off. Afterwards power went off and i called all my colleagues who were in the same hotel for help. After about 20 minutes the lift got Hot and I think we started losing oxygen because we started gasping for air. All this time, we were ringing the alarm bell and one of the guys had called the emergency numbers many times. After what seemed like the whole of my life (must have been 30 to 40 minutes), the power came back, the lift shook us up and down like 5 times and eventually it Dropped us in the basement. By then I could not even walk because I was carried out by the 2 guys. Apart from my colleagues’ concern about my safety, the hotel was not bothered about what was going on. I found the General Manager of the hotel busy swinging in his chair and he gave me a passive sorry, the operations manager was not even aware that anything had happened. Secondly, the other people in the hotel clearly didn’t know what was going on. This means that the alarm bell we were ringing is just a gimmick and it cannot be heard by the outside people. This gets me thinking that if we had lost mobile telephone network while in the lift (which is a common scenario in that hotel) there would be no way of being rescued because the alarm bells are not effective. For those of you planning to have meetings in the same hotel, be aware of such negligence or should I say death traps????
