Death and Dying This question comes up many times as I get older. Many search for the reason(s) and answers for death, many are disheartened and many are shattered by the loss. Not many understand its meaning nor try. Over the years I’ve lost many family members and friends to what the Word calls “its sting.” Over the past couple of weeks many more have left the earthly plain to travel the road of the unknown and I could only think about the effect it has people entire family when this happens. I personally believe the grief that we feel is only due to not knowing what lays after this life; that this temporal shell once gone answers no questions to the afterlife. For those that believe in God and attempt to understand His promise, through faith, focus less on the passing of their loved ones temporal being and more on His promise. But the fact that we will not see a loved one again in this bodily form continues to haunt many that don’t know or believe God’s word. But the psalmist states: Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory– Psalms 73:24 All life is here summed up in one verse. While I am here on this earth, the psalmist gloats to the Lord, You will guide me. You will give me the direction I need for each step of the way. You will never leave me or forsake me. You will help me when I stumble, and you will steer me when I lose my way. What’s more, you will guide me with thy counsel. This is no mere human, fallible leader. For He is the all-knowing, all-wise escort. He will never give us wrong advice or send us in a wrong direction. We that believe will never meet a problem to which we do not know the solution, and we will never get so off course that He cannot guide us back to safety. But that is all just life on earth! Afterward, You will receive us that believe in glory. After You have carefully and lovingly directed our way here, you will usher us into Your glorious presence in heaven. There is no intermediary state — death is not a tunnel, it is a door. And when You release our hand in this world, You will receive us into the next. There is no “sending”; there is only guiding and then receiving — no time apart from You. Death, where is your sting; Grave, where is your victory; Devil, where is your terror? My God will guide us with His counsel, and then receive us to His glory. Amen!!!!
