Death came early to a budding and fast rising young politician here in calapan city when the car Board Member Jojie Malapitan (1st district Or. Mindoro) was driving crashed into an acacia tree along the nautical highway at km.6, brgy masipit late last night snuffing out his life. Jojie, as he was popularly known, was noted for his meteoric rise in local politics starting as SK chair and rep thence serving as city councilor for nine years. In the last election, despite not being carried by the official LP slate (though he is an LP member) he won a seat in the sanggunian panlalawigan landing 4th among the five winners. Jojie is the son of the equally popular late Polding Malapitan who also served three terms in the sanggunian panlalawigan from 1995 to 2004.
