Death has a funny way of causing you to remember things that you havent thought of for years. As I think about one of my best childhood friends, Bobbi Jo Jones, who lost her battle with cancer earlier today, I have to smile through my tears as I realize that I dont have many memories from MenRiv, Marrington, or GCHS that she isnt a part of: softball at Locklear Park, youth center dances (We would always switch our shoes or our shirts in the bathroom. This seems a little odd now, but then it just made all kinds of sense), the pool, calling Q107 to request our favorite songs, sleepovers, walks to the Exchange or the bowling alley, riding our bikes past the cute boys houses, passing notes between our classes (I still have many in an old shoe box), and so many other things... I was remembering that she was the first one to tease me publicly about liking Donnie (loudly and in front of him, no less) and telling me that he was too old for me (oh, the irony of life...). My mom and I were reminiscing about when she ran away from home and showed up on our doorstep, begging us to let her live there. The base security showed up when her parents found she was missing, and while she didnt get to move in, she did get to sleep over on a school night... I remember years later, when we were young, newly-marrieds, meeting for a reunion lunch at Zambolis and talking and talking like we never had missed a beat. Bobbi Jo was an important part of my life. I loved her, and I will miss her dearly. Praying fervently now for her children, her family and loved ones...
