Death not understood is death. Death understood is immortality. King of the Armenians Vartan Mamikonian, A.D. 451 On 10 August 2014 Matt Manoukian, Ryan Jeshke and Sky Mote were killed in a green on blue attack. I know the name of their killer and I have his picture. I also know what happened to him. In the big picture, it doesnt matter. These three Marines were incredibly tough and utterly fearless men who had served on multiple deployments yet chose to finish the mission. Also that day, Marines Staff Sgt. Scott Dickinson, 29, Cpl. Richard Rivera, 20, and Lance Cpl. Greg Buckley Jr. were killed in a green on blue attack. The shooter was tried this past July 22 before a panel of three Afghan judges and sentenced the next day to seven and one-half years in prison, the max under Afghan law. Someone recently sent a private message to me and said perhaps I should not glorify death and war. Oh, I know full well that there is nothing glorious about death and war. I set up this page to celebrate the lives and courage of Matt and other the Rough Men and Rough Women who cared enough to put themselves in harms way to try to make a better world for the living.
