Death of Khaleda Zias son today (from natural causes) in Malaysia - TopicsExpress

Death of Khaleda Zias son today (from natural causes) in Malaysia complicates an already complicated picture in relation to the current crisis in the country. First, there is the issue of the arrest of Khaleda Zia, which by all reports is being actively considered in the government. The death of her son probably makes it unlikely to happen in the immediate days (assuming of course that it was to happen at all). Secondly, the government may be concerned that it could be a trigger for supporters to converge at the BNP office in Gulshan, where Khaleda is currently located, or later at the funeral. Thirdly, the government will have to make a decision about whether they will allow Khaleda to attend the funeral. Fourthly, it has been reported that the government would like to lock up the BNPs Gulshan office, where Khaleda is currently residing, and her departure to a funeral would allow this to happen. So the government would have to decide whether to take the opportunity; Fifthly, Aratat Rahman Kokos death will inevitably have a significant impact upon Zia herself, and her resolve to continue with the partys movement; and finally, there is the matter about whether the party will call off the 36 hour strike it has just called to allow his body back into the country etc
