Debate in the UK on Empires: Shashi Tharoor is one of the bright lights in Indian politics. He was UN Commissioner for Refugees, the position Kofi Anan had before he became Secretary-General of the UN. Tharoor lobbied for the position of Secretary-General when Anan retired, but Ban Ki-Moon of South Korea won. This video shows only one side of the debate, but the link has the whole debate, if you are interested in this historical era. It can be is very instructive, but it is also academic ! What does one do, now? There will always be challenges to communities, & in the international community, and it is important to be vigilant in the new global economy, which is given direction, in part, by very narrow economic & ethnic interests. The struggle for freedom will always go on. It may well be part of the human condition to constantly struggle.
