Debbie Flowers Drennan sent me a note about her father, James Flowers, longtime mathematics teacher at Southern High. At 91, he is now “retired” and lives with his wife, Jean, on a farm in LaRue County. “Hi, Jim. Just wanted you to know that daddy will be in Glen Ridge in Louisville for rehabilitation. He broke his hip on Tuesday and had surgery on Wednesday. “He will be discharged from Hardin Memorial Hospital by ambulance tomorrow sometime, though we don’t know exact time. But he for sure will be at Glen Ridge on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, if anyone wants to visit him. “They say depending on how he does he might be there until Friday. He’s doing great. They put three screws in his leg. Luckily he did not displace the bone, so he did not have to have a hip replacement. “He was mending a fence at the barn and stepped in a rut and fell. He pulled himself up and got on the tractor and mowed a bit before going back in the house!
