Debbie Ziegler Lambert Just got this in my email. The PA DEP recently released the 2nd half 2013 waste report data for unconventional wells, and our analysis team combined the data with 1st half values, tallying some interesting statistics for the past year. The total liquid waste produced by unconventional gas well operations in 2013 was 1.4 billion gallons - enough to fill a line of 170,000 tanker trucks stretching from Philadelphia PA to Denver CO. Over 1 billion gallons of liquid waste were designated as being reused or treated for recycling, while 137 million gallons were sent to injection disposal wells. The 2013 totals for each disposal method: GALLONS | DISPOSAL METHOD (DEP categories) 906,619,845 | Reuse Other Than Road Spreading 159,962,811 | Residual Waste Proc Fac (General Permit) 137,698,869 | Injection Disposal Well 117,005,438 | Centralized Treatment Plant For Recycle 27,850,489 | Cent Waste Trt Fac Npdes Discharge 6,407,139 | Storage Pending Disposal Or Reuse 1,431,469 | Residual Waste Transfer Facility 490,082 | Landfill 68,670 | Road Spreading 4,290 | Centralizd Treatment/Discharge(500Mg/L) Nearly 6 million gallons of liquid waste went to an injection well facility in Clearfield county, PA. 130 million gallons were shipped to Ohio injection wells, and West Virginia received over 1 million gallons for injection. Detailed waste information is available in our individual well and well-pad reports, including the waste facilities that accepted waste material from each well. The total amount of liquid waste produced since unconventional gas well development began is nearly 6 billion gallons, the equivalent of 750 thousand tanker truckloads.
