Deborah tagged me to list ten books that have moved me. And I did it... 1. The magic faraway tree, by Enid blyton. the faraway tree series was a revelation as a little kid, so many unexpected twists and turns, and the feeling that the world can be a varied and interesting place if you venture far enough from home... 2. I wanna go home, by gorden korman. The first time I read a book and identified deeply with the main character. No one but my brother seems to have read this gem of a novel set in a summer camp in Canada. Perfect teen novel (for the right kid) 3. Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, by Douglas Adams. The sense of humour, themes and absurdity tickle me in a way no other franchise can. 4. IT, by Steven King. Wow! As a young teen, this novel hit the spot firing my imagination and evoking a visceral fear that still makes me flinch every now and then when walking past a sewer grate on a rainy morning. 5. The Hobbit, by JRR Tolkien. Another book extolling the eye opening benefits of stepping outside your safe world and heading off for adventure. 6. The great gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald. Small town boy making his way in the world only to find he is chasing the past. Great story, deftly told and amazingly touching. 7. 1984. Rare gem from the high school syllabus, excellent ending... 8. American psycho, by Bret Easton Ellis. Hilarious. Absolutely adore the sequences where Patrick recounts his morning regime from GQ magazine including all the brands, techniques and reps. 9. The secret history, by Donna Tartt. Where do I begin? The eloquent writing style, the vivid imagery, the twisting storyline, such a wonderful novel, kept me entranced to the end. 10. Fear and loathing in Las Vegas, by hunter s Thompson. A wild ride through the mind of a twisted couple of individuals. So much visual imagery and drug addled banter, what an experience. Come on word nerd buddies - Mandy, Nathan, Rebecca and Ian. Whats on your list?
