Dec 13, 1966 the Jimi Hendrix Experience recorded Foxy Lady on this day. The United States version of Are You Experienced,. listed the song with a spelling mistake as Foxey Lady and this is how it is still known among many North American fans. This version was taped two years later, but is authentic nonetheless. The same year Hendrix gave his memorable Monterey Pops performance June 1967, a friend and I attended the Monterey Jazz festival a few months later in October, when we heard and saw T-Bone Walker, B. B. King, Richie Havens, Dizzy Gillespie, Modern Jazz Quartet, Ornette Coleman, Earl Fatha Hines and Big Brother & The Holding Companyw/Janis Joplin, a mixture of blues jazz and rock. It was a crazy venue, very few hotels for a huge crowd, we slept on blankets on the Monterey beach with fog descending on our faces. It was a very integrated audience in every dimension, lots of African American jazz buffs and white jazz musicians carrying guitars and horns. Angels in full regalia, a contingent of Haight-Ashbury San Francisco folks in hippie skirts, braided hair with garlands of flowers, and middle aged Beat types smoking dope and reading jazz poetry between sets. A different era of great music. youtu.be/_PVjcIO4MT4
