Dec.... Christmas In Beautiful Amherst N.S. At the Fred , Daisy ( Jones ) Martin home 151 - E. Pleasant ST. was like the beginning of Advent , the four Sundays before Christmas. In our home with a larg family we did not have much in material treasure, we made up for this in our ( Faith, Closeness and Love ). Dec. was a time of rebirth, the birth of Baby Jeus. Each Dec. Mom would paint, change the wall paper and new floor coverings. From the oldest to the youngest we became professional painters and paper hangers. Most everything came from Eatons or Simpsons- Sears. Mom knitted our socks, mittens, sweaters and head garb. All the cooking was baked from scratch Christmas fruit cakes, dark, white - our favorite cookies and pastry. Not a Christmas passed that the oldest did not send a Money Order home, these little things made our Christmas growing up in Amherst a special time. WE always got one thing we asked Santa for, we were never disapointed on this special day, as we always had the best gift a family wrapped in much love and a Christmas dinner fit for a Queen. On Christmas Day us kids would visit other families -- Jones, Ross, Martins , Cookes, Gearosand Bowles and many other Amherst families to see what Santa had left them. We would be given candy, drinks, and other Christmas goodies. Christmas in beautiful Amherst N.S. was a awesome time. Mom Dad ---Fred, Daisy Martin you have earned your rest RIP....
