December 1 marks the appearance of our Elf on the Shelf, Freddy. Maureen would shoot out of bed and try to be the first to find him. Even though whoever found him first was not supposed to give away the new location, someone would occasionally breach this and an argument would ensue. I smile as I reflect on the fact that as soon as Jayla was old enough to understand that she was to find something, Maureen took great pleasure in leading her sister around the house in search of Freddy. Last year, Maureen and her godmother made donuts for Freddy. They were adorable! Chocolate, powdered sugar, and cinnamon donuts (Cheerios) arranged in an old Altoids tin. I heard they were a beast to make, but Maureen felt that they were worth all the trouble. These pictures crack me up because I was trying to take a picture of her presenting them to Freddy, but my flash was too bright, so all the pictures turned out poorly. I am glad I didnt delete them. I do not know if Jayla remembers the donuts or has just been reminded by the endless cycle of pictures that play out on our computer screen, but she found an empty Altoids can among her play kitchen items this week. She excitedly ran up to me and asked if we could make donuts for Freddy this year. I think we will need to go through the trouble; Maureen would do so in a heartbeat.
