December 10, 2014 To Whom It May Concern: We are requesting your assistance for an upcoming fundraiser. The JillHasWill, event for Jillian Vieira that will take place on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Long Branch Portuguese Club. The ultimate goal of the fundraiser is to bring awareness to Aplastic Anemia, a rare blood disorder and support to a family and the high cost of out-of-pocket medical expenses that will be incurred. Jillian Vieira who lives in Howell, NJ was diagnosed on September 26, 2014, days before her 14th birthday with aplastic anemia. This is a rare blood disorder, in which the bone marrow and the blood stem cells that reside there are damaged. This causes a deficiency of all three blood cell types, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Since her diagnosis in September, Jillian has undergone blood and platelet transfusions at weekly. The only cure for Aplastic Anemia is with a bone marrow transplant which is scheduled for December 10, 2014. Fortunately, her 10-year-old brother Tyler is a match. Jillian, an eighth grade student at Howell Middle School South, is an energetic, fun loving girl who loves her family, friends and playing lacrosse. She has remained positive through this diagnosis. With all that, imagine weekly blood transfusions, a month and a half in the hospital, and continuous follow up for years and the financial burden that comes with all of this.
