December 15, 1971 From the morning we have been hearing a strong rumor that Paki army may start getting into different houses in the city and fight from there keeping the occupants as hostesses. If needed they would also kill them. Indian army was at the outskirt of the city, but in this house to house fight many people would die and thus slow their advance. One of my nephews who had gone out, came back and reported that he had heard miking announcement by Biharis telling people not to worry as American 7th Fleet have arrived in the Bay of Bengal. These all were very worrying news for us. We decided that some of us would climb into the box room in the ceiling and take shelter there. Our parents were too old to climb and they told us not to worry and they would stay in their room to mislead the military when they come. We also heard stray firing noises making us further scared. Our house was on Central Road and after a bend it became Bhuter Goli and went upto Hatir Pool. Munir Chowdhury, Kabir Chowdhury, Ferdousi Rahman family used to live in this area. When we heard that yesterday Al-Badr Bahini had picked up Munir Chowdhury - we knew they could also come to us next. We spent the night with lot of tension.
