December 19: In keeping with the military mood, here is another - TopicsExpress

December 19: In keeping with the military mood, here is another hero from the armed services (but not as great as our own family Army hero, Michael McCullough!). This King served as a Sergeant in the US Army from 1958 to 1960, and did a little time in my old back woods, Fort Hood, Texas. In addition to the time served, he also managed to release 36 number hits. That is impressive. So it wouldn’t be hard to reach out to his Christmas Album, which also happened to be the number one selling Christmas album of all time, and find a song for today’s selection. However, my selection does not appear on that record initially (it did make the re-issue). I learned to like If Every Day Was Like Christmas by Elvis Presley listening to it on Cassette 2 of the Time Life Treasury of Christmas Tapes, and I believe part of its appeal was that I only had the “remix” version. My tape was somehow eaten by my player, and the tape inside was flipped. So listening to this Presley song, I could only hear parts of the song between low mumbling sounds. It was, however, enough to get me hooked. This song did feature in the film, It Happened at the World’s Fair, but was not included on that soundtrack either. Released instead as a single and reaching the Billboard #2, the song was album-less until the reissue of Elvis’ Christmas Album. Strange it wasn’t on the soundtrack for It Happened at the World’s Fair? Now I have not seen that movie yet, but it is interesting to note that Kurt Russell was the uncredited boy that kicked Elvis in the leg so he could go see his nurse friend. Kurt Russell would go on to play Elvis in the made for TV Film Elvis, provide the voice for Elvis in Forrest Gump, and play an Elvis impersonator in 3000 Miles to Graceland. Now, without further ado (not adieu, which means goodbye): https://youtube/watch?v=1pRNMeIAqKk
