December 23 Do you know who the weeds are? Matthew 13:36-43 Then, leaving the crowds outside, Jesus went into the house. His disciples said, “Please explain to us the story of the weeds in the field.” 37 Jesus replied, “The Son of Man* is the farmer who plants the good seed. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one. 39 The enemy who planted the weeds among the wheat is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world,* and the harvesters are the angels. 40 “Just as the weeds are sorted out and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the world. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will remove from his Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 And the angels will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s Kingdom. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand! I love the fact that even the disciples heard this parable and needed it explained to them. Im not sure how much they understood about the end times at this point, but Im sure they understood what Jesus meant about the weeds growing all around them once He explained it to them. What we do know about this parable is that at the end of the world, angels will separate the evil from the good. We also know that there are true and false believers in churches today, but we should be cautious in our judgments because only Christ is qualified to make the final separation. If we start judging, we may cause damage to some of the good “plants.” Most importantly, we should be judging our own response to God rather than trying to analyze others’ responses. I think that is where the growing among the weeds part comes in. When we know the true and living Jesus, we will follow Him and not man. We will seek out Gods advice on matters rather than always turning to those who are growing along side of us, not really knowing where their heart is with the Lord. When we put our eyes and trust on man we certainly are setting our selves up for failure. OK. Now I gave you a teaser link yesterday to the butterfly effect. If you tried to find it you probably did.
