December 28, 1793, During the French Revolution American Revolutionary War Hero Thomas Paine would be arrested; tried, convicted, and scheduled for the guillotine for Treason in Paris, France. It would take all of his diplomatic skills for future President James Monroe to get Paine exonerated and out of the country. Paine died penniless in Greenwich Village, New York, and virtually forgotten in 1809. A pen as mighty as Thomas Jeffersons during our Revolution.
