December 3 THE SPIRIT CAUSES YOU TO KNOW But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26 We have been called to function by knowledge. And this knowledge is imparted by the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus informed His disciples what the Holy Spirit would do for them: “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26). Now, this precious Holy Spirit has been given to us; He now lives right on the inside of us to teach us all things. The importance of the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit in the believer’s life cannot be overemphasized. Living victoriously in this evil world is absolutely dependent on our attitude towards the Holy Spirit and His awesome ministry in our lives. Dealing wisely in the affairs of life is a function of having accurate and adequate knowledge of what God has furnished us with and using it. In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul the Apostle said “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God” (1Cor 2:12). We have received the Holy Spirit that we might know. The Spirit of God imparts us with the knowledge of those things that have been freely given to us by God. You may want to ask, what’s the import of knowing what has been freely given? Enjoying what has been feely given is contingent on having the knowledge of what has been freely given. How are you going to receive and use maximally what you don’t know has been given to you. On the other hand, if you truly know that something has been given to you, then, you can use and enjoy it. Sadly, many are oblivious of what the Holy Spirit has been sent to do in their lives; hence, they don’t take their fellowship with the Spirit seriously. We need to constantly fellowship with the Holy Spirit through the word and prayer. When we do this, we acquire and grow in the knowledge of the things that have been freely given to us. The Spirit is here to cause you to know. A wise man once said “knowledge is power”. This is true! Go for knowledge by submitting yourself to the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit. Prayer I am taught by the Spirit of God who lives in me. I know and enjoy the things that have been freely given to me by God.
