December 31 - ♫ (FINAL) MUSICIANS BIRTHDAY ♫ It is common to place favorite waltzes (esp. of Johann Strauss) on New Years Eve... so I couldnt think of a better final Musicians Birthday post for the year than this. In October 2011 André Rieu, Dutch violinist and conductor best known for creating the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra, released an album called And the Waltz Goes On. The title song is a waltz composed by Welsh-born actor Sir Anthony Hopkins. It turns out Hopkins first trained as a musician, and composed this piece at the age of 19, though he had never heard it played. A fan of the Dutch violinist, he finally, fearfully sent the piece to Rieu for his consideration. So here it is... Enjoy!
