December 31, 2002 and the dropped ceiling falls flooding the first floor’s antique shop with water. The former owner of this building was a slum landlord and these pictures pretty much confirm it. Apparently there was a tiny leak in one of the plumbing lines on the 2nd floor. He decided to “fix it” by securing a massive plastic tarp across the entire ceiling. On one end he jerry rigged a pvc pipe at an angle that went through the south wall and drained down the exterior of the building! All was entirely concealed by the drop ceiling he then hung to hide the band aid tarp fix. The 1st floor tenant had planned to move out in February but with this inconvenience he vacated a month early leaving me with something to think about. If you look closely, you’ll notice the tin ceiling. This was the first I knew it existed. What else might I uncover? This was the beginning of what was to become Susan’s big adventure.
