December 31, 2014 6:39 AM “COPS who acted like they were doing random searches robbed me of R21 000!” So said prophet Tonderai Nhidaza (30) of Yeoville, Joburg, who said he was in Braamfontein when cops robbed him. He said he was stopped by a uniformed cop with seven others in private clothes the day before Christmas. “They asked to search me and demanded my passport. “They reached for my pocket and the small bag I had with me. They asked me what am I doing with so much money.” Tonderai said he told them he was going home to Zimbabwe. And that’s when the beating started. One of the alleged cops used an iron pipe and broke his arm. He said after he admitted overstaying his time and said he was planning to renew his passport at the border, they cuffed his hands and took his money. Tonderai said he was not the only victim. Walking towards the railway police station, the so-called cops robbed about 30 people during their “random searches”. Tonderai said he is concerned he can’t work because the cops broke his arm. He said he wants the cops who beat him up to be bust and also wants his money. Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo of Hillbrow Police Station confirmed that a case was opened. “Cops are investigating.”
