December 4, 2014. CYCLE-LIFE UPDATER: (for Thursday) Early morning ride to practice in Waterloo (40 minutes). Returned via the Iron Horse and Highland Road (60 minutes). Afternoon ride to practice via downtown Waterloo ( 50 minutes). Total time in the saddle: two hours and thirty minutes. Late getting going. Worried about traffic after a 6 am start. Passing some runners near Courtland and Ottawa and I hear my name being called. HELLO, it was Erika Thibault out for an early run with her buddies. Quite COLD this morning. Despite grabbing a coffee and a breakfast sandwich at Tims, still made it to workout in a respectable time. Glad to see the new face of Ellen. Brandon and Jessica can be counted on to be in attendance. Not bad for these high school athletes. PROUD. Adams knee is still an issue but it is well enough to finish the workout. Hard to shake OFF the wish-prayer-hope for immediate healing. This is so important for ANY athlete to come to terms with. An injury can be a very productive-important time. Just as critical as training or racing. ( It is all in my tiny book.) Great post race exchange with Sarah and Ellen. We covered a lot of territory. Not news for Sarah but my hope is that Ellen was not overwhelmed. When my talk is ON, the spidy sense is not too useful. Watching the Leaf game as background and I have to say, Cody Francine is VERY over-rated. Not impressed. Useless under defensive pressure in the Toronto end. Off to Wind on Highland to top-up my phone account. Big breakfast at Angels Diner. Used to do this in the old days. Remembering through the body weight-loss-mechanism. How many years ago? Way too much food but no worries. Met waitress Christina who just started chatting soul and just curious-grabbed-to-peruse my stack of notes. She primarily liked the paper used. We may meet again. The sun was beaming-sparkle-bright and the homeward ride was a slow-meander-joy-fest. Loving this weather. Washed some dishes. Sent out digital copies of my book ( Coach as Poet-Survivor) to Sarah and Ellen. Tried unsuccessfully to find a key cutting place in downtown Waterloo. Closed. Feeling the left groin. spin rate needs to be higher, less power. Loving the seat. Cheap date? Certainly. Love drinking water. Darryl and Dinger made another guest appearance. Excellent. Wide bodies currently. Too much energy consumed by arguing with MC about the World Championship beer mile. I was having too much FUN. My apologies MC. Unfortunately, it was a lead item on CBC evening news and twelve plus minutes were spent talking about the event. UGGHHHH. Only one rabbit today. Gave Dave new home-route-instructions that he felt were more like an adventure in areas of town that were new and he seldom travelled. Thanks Dave. More tomorrow.
