December 4,2014 St. John Damascene, Priest and Doctor of the Church Thursday, 1st Week of Advent Lord, You are my Firm Foundation, my Rock and my Refuge. Grant me the wisdom and courage to build my life on You, so that I may stand firm in faith and survive the storms of temptation and adversity that I have to face. May I never rely on worldly wisdom that may look so substantial and convincing but is in fact like building on sand. When the winds, rains and floods come, the quality of the foundation is tested revealing all it’s weaknesses. May I strengthen the foundation of my spiritual life by taking time to ponder on Your Word each day and striving to put it into practice through constant prayer and utmost generosity. Teach me to build a humbler, simpler life on You, my solid foundation instead of building on an outwardly impressive life on sandy ground. Deepen my life in faith and charity so that I may have enough foresight to be ready for any trial that may come my way. May I stake my life on the coming of Your Kingdom so as not to face the consequences of being unprepared. Amen Based on Today’s Gospel: Matthew 7:21, 24-27
