December will be an interesting month for me. To start with, my teeth are in rough shape. They have had problems with decay since before I had braces, despite the rest of the familys teeth, especially my mothers, being in very good shape. A few years of poverty meant I had to have a couple of teeth pulled a few years ago. I dont remember exactly when -- 3 to 5 years, perhaps? The dentist who pulled them was, I suspect, either new or incompetent or both. The first tooth took about 15 minutes, but I found out later she left a root tip behind, which has been hanging out of my gum since then. The second tooth took her over an hour. She also shushed me when I cried out in pain. Between those experiences, I could not bring myself to go back to the dentist, even as more teeth broke. Then I developed an abscess, and finally went to another dentist. They were much kinder, but told me I had to come back for the oral surgeon to remove my three molars that have broken down, and the root tip left by the other dentist. So later today, December 2, I am taking a Xanax and heading in to see that oral surgeon and have these teeth removed. My appointment is at 10:45. I have a lot of other work that needs to be done, but after the antibiotics took care of the abscess, getting the teeth out was the top priority. I also have a couple of appointments on Wednesday, so I will be running around town imitating a chipmunk for a while until the swelling subsides. And I have a busy weekend -- the scheduler at the dentists office seems to think I will be fine. I hope she is right, I do have a lot to get done. Since two of the destroyed molars are next to each other, I will need a partial for my left lower jaw. At least they can now make them so it isnt necessary to put crowns on the teeth to either side of the gap. Just the extractions and the partial will be over a thousand dollars, so I am glad they will work with me on payments. Hard to come up with that kind of money on disability. And those are the charges after insurance payments are deducted. Sigh. Then I have some other cavities to fill, but they arent as critical as this work. And I want to get the teeth taken care of because on December 23, I am going into surgery to repair a large hernia from my hysterectomy. When I had that done in 2009, the doctor had planned to deliver the uterus through my vagina, a very common procedure. Except it doesnt work when my uterus is the size of my head, so he had to go into the abdomen from the front to remove the uterus, which was in very strange condition anyway. The stitches gave out all the way in 10 days later, and he sewed me up again. This time, I didnt burst all the way open, but I have a 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in) hernia allowing my intestines to hang out right under my skin. The doctor is planning on doing a fully invasive surgery to put all my muscles and parts back where they belong; the healing may be a bit longer but we hope this will keep the hernia from recurring, Ri.Ight now, it looks kind of like there is a fist pushing out from under my navel. I will still have a belly, but hopefully no more Alien Baby. Oh, and I will no longer have a navel. I told the surgeon I had managed fine without my left breast, I was unlikely to miss my navel. He did laugh a bit at that. So I could use some strength and healing tomorrow and this week for an easy recovery from the extractions, and even more right after Yule to help me heal well and strong so the hernia will not return. Thanks for any support you can offer me. Tomorrow is my first big December adventure. WIsh me well. I am going to post this and lie down and pretend to sleep for a while. Anxiety sucks.
