Decided to make this a separate post. I have a hard time finding heavy cream at affordable price and without carrageenan or some other preservatives. Organic is too expensive. I used to get Land O Lakes at Costco, 1 quart for less than $4, but stopped buying it when I saw that carrageenan is being added to it. I still get the same brand Half and Half, because its still free of carrageenan and BHT; 1 quart for $2.19 at Costco. Trader Joes Half and Half is preservative free and $1.99 for a quart. On my last trip there they were out of heavy cream so I didnt get to see if its preservative free too, but Im guessing it is; dont know the price though, but cant be much more expensive than Costco. Other supermarkets sell a quart of heavy cream for $4.99 or $5.99, and even $6.99, and quart of Half and Half for $2.99 to $3.99 or more, and most have at least one preservative. At Trade Fair supermarket I was getting quart of heavy cream for $3.99 and quart of Half and Half for $2.50, both without preservatives, but they stop selling the brand and now sell one with carrageenan or BHT, and at higher prices too. Ugh! Even expensive organic brands are adding carrageenan or BHT. It makes me want to scream. I discovered by accident that carrageenan is very irritating to me. I was using a external lotion that was made with carrageenan, and it caused extreme irritation and some numbness. First time it happened I didnt know the cause, but when it happened a second time I realized it was the lotion. I threw it in the garbage, at least $10 worth. No more products with carrageenan for me. If it can be that irritating on the outside, on skin, just imagine how irritating it can be on the inside, in our digestive tract. wholegreenlove/2013/04/07/carrageenan-a-dangerous-sneaky-commonly-used-food-additive/
