Decision deferred until Friday!!! And we call this a Fast Track court - compared to statistics of decisions happening over the life time of the appealant - this can be of course be termed as a Fast Track. Read on what the defence lawyer has to say on the brutal gangrape. A fast-track court in Delhi has convicted four men - Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh Singh - for the December 16, 2012, brutal gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old paramedical student in a private bus in the national capital. The arguments on the sentencing of the four convicts will take place on Wednesday. Defence lawyer AP Singh say the verdict in unfair, delivered under political pressure. "All the convicts are innocent," maintains Singh. Defence lawyer argued that none of the accused (now convicts) raped Nirbhaya, let alone murdering her. Defence lawyer argued that out of the four convicts, three were not even present on the bus on the night crime was committed and police fabricated evidence to frame them. Three convicts--Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma and Pawan Gupta--even produced alibis as witness who told the court that the accused were at different place. Akshay argued that he was not in Delhi. Vinay Sharma and Pawan Gupta argued that they were attending a music programme that night. Mukesh admitted to being on the bus, but denied raping and attacking the girl and her friend. "This is a clear case of acquittal. But due to political pressure they have been sentenced", said defence lawyer AP Singh. Defence lawyer AP Singh, in his final arguments, accused the Delhi Police of framing the accused and planting evidence on them. The victim’s statement to the magistrate, Singh argued, was a police fabrication. The victim, he claimed, had died much before she had been officially declared to be dead. "The accused are poor and powerless people, which is why they have been found guilty", he said. "The trial was not fair, and the decision is completely under political pressure," he added. VK Anand, defence lawyer for Mukesh said he will appeal for his client as “mere presence of the accused on the scene of crime doesn’t mean he has done anything”.
