Decisions, decisions, decisions, which one of us doesn’t have - TopicsExpress

Decisions, decisions, decisions, which one of us doesn’t have decisions to make? Making a decision is really not difficult to do; making the “right” decision is a little different story. For those of you that are like me, fear creeps in during that choice process because we don’t want to make a mistake. I guess what we really want is to know the outcome before we make the choice; we want the “knowledge” before the process. There is nothing wrong about wanting knowledge, in fact, Proverbs 1:7 states “The fear (awe) of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,” but then it goes on to stay, “But fools despise wisdom and instruction (understanding).” What!!!! So, I can have knowledge, but still be a fool, that doesn’t make sense, or does it? A friend of mine used to have a quote when describing this type of person, “they are book smart, but walking around stupid!” They were puffed up in their knowledge, but did not have an understanding of it. Proverbs 16:18 describes it best “Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.” But there is hope in our quest to make the right choice, and it is found in Proverbs 11:2 “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” Webster’s dictionary defines humility as “: not proud: not thinking of yourself as better than other people.” I heard a story one time that is a great illustration of these two things, humility and wisdom. “A very successful businessman had just given a lecture to a large group of college students, when he was approached by one of those in attendance with a question, “sir if I may ask, how did you become successful in business,” his reply was, “making the right choices.” Perplexed by this answer, he asked permission to ask yet one more question. His question was “how did you know what the right choice was?” The successful businessman’s reply was, “by making the wrong one first.” His humility came from acknowledging that he was no better than any other business person, but had gained his wisdom through his wrong choices. Like knowledge, wisdom is started the same way, “The fear (awe) of the Lord is the beginnings of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding.” Psalms 111:10. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5. There is one more element in the decision process, and that is understanding. We have determined that knowledge without wisdom is catastrophic, but without the understanding on how to apply that wisdom we will still miss the mark. The path to understanding comes this way, “However when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth; for He shall not speak from Himself, but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak; and He will show you things to come.” John 16:13 The Father has provided every resource we need for the ability to make those decisions, knowledge and wisdom that begin with our fear (awe) of Him and the Holy Spirit to lead us into all understanding. Sometimes these will come by making a wrong decision, but remember that “nothing is wasted in God’s economy!” Don’t let the fear of mistakes rob you of the gifts the Father has for you, remember Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Be Blessed
