Decks have been cleared for signing the general consultancy agreement with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the Rs. 5,581-crore elevated mass rapid transit system in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode.The Cabinet on Wednesday gave the clearance for the agreement to be signed making the DMRC responsible for the design, preparation of the bid document, short-listing, and selection of contractors, supervision, and quality certification for the 22.2-km monorail in Thiruvananthapuram and 14.2-km in Kozhikode.The DMRC will be the general consultant for both the projects, which have already been given administrative sanction by the government.A single agreement will be signed with the DMRC for the projects in the two cities as the general consultant and executing agency are the same.Minister for Public Works V.K. Ebrahim Kunju told The Hindu that the pact with the DMRC would be signed in Thiruvanathapuram soon and the monorail will be completed in a time-bound manner.The agreement and the terms of conditions were cleared by the director board of Kerala Monorail Corporation Ltd (KMCL), the special purpose vehicle (SPV) established to execute the MRTS in the two cities.
