Dedicated to 마왕 (Prince of Darkness) Shin haechul: If I ever have to choose only one profession in the world as my favorite, I would not hesitate a moment. I can not simply live without music which has always kept me going. Thats why I always feel grateful to many musicians in the world including street performers. No matter how broke I am, I always give away some coins to street musicians as a token of appreciation. Upon returning to Germany from amazing trip in Andalusia, Spain, I have learned of a terrible news that my favorite singer & social activist, Shin hae-chul has just passed away. His sudden departure shocked the whole country, and much saddened me as well. He was a fabulous musician, but also a brilliant person with the best wit, always stands up for the justice he believed in, and loving husband and father. In a nutshell, a role-model. I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, yet, I have known his music for almost 26 years now since his debut in 1988 . This legendary singer is credited for over 30 albums and tried out many different genres: pop, progressive rock, Jazz, electronic, rap, including the Avant Garde experimental group N.EX.T. As for me, his beautiful and philosophical lyrics have been quite touching that it made me cry many times. They are not only about common heartaches, but also self-reflection, alienation, solitude, death themes that we can relate to, and inspiring social messages, all that jazz. I truly believe that he could have won a Nobel Prize, if they give awards for lyrics itself. He was politically active and outspoken and supported various social events with good-will. He was once recommended as a minister of culture, but he simply rejected the idea to continue his music career. Even though his nickname was 마왕 (Prince of Darkness) for his Charisma and dark-themed songs, his life was indeed of angel. He has innocent souls and passionate heart. He married his sweetheart who was fighting against cancer back then, and considerate enough to make a video will for her and his kids in preparations of his unexpected death to make sure they know how much he love them. Too bad that he got to make use of it so soon. He was not internationally known, however, he is the best musician from Korea, in my opinion. 마왕 (Prince of Darkness)! I thank you again for the precious music you have shared with us over the last few decades. They will stay with our hearts, even though you are gone now. Please reborn and bring us more joy and inspirations. We will miss you so much! Your fan, Claire.
