Dedication of the Camp Douglas Historical Marker, October 20, 10 a.m., in Bronzeville. More than 30 donors contributed to this historical marker, which commemorates the Civil War soldiers who trained there, the Confederate POW soldiers incarcerated and buried there, and Stephen A. Douglas, for whom the camp was named. Chicago Aldermen Burns and Fioretti participated in the unveiling, as did ISHS President Russell Lewis, Camp Douglas Restoration Fund president David Keller, and many others. The Camp Douglas historical marker is one of more than 11 historical markers dedicated during the commemoration of the 150th anniversary commemoration of the Civil War.
